7-Zip Download – Open Source Packprogramm

The free download of 7-Zip makes it easier to create and extract ZIP, RAR and 7Z files, but it also supports many other archives.

Compressing data can be useful, for example, if you want to save space on the hard drive or send files over the Internet. The free Packer 7-Zip is currently available for Windows in version 21.06.

7-Zip Download & Installation

7-Zip runs on Windows XP, Vista, 2000, 2003, 2008, 2013, NT, 7, 8 and 10. The command line version is also available for Linux / Unix. In the options, 7-Zip can be integrated into the context menu of Windows Explorer, so that archives can be extracted directly after a right-click. Similarly, files or entire folders can be compressed with just a few clicks of the mouse.

7-Zip is available in 32-bit and 64-bit versions. For optimal performance and error-free integration in the context menu, the version that matches the operating system should be installed.

When packing and unpacking, 7-Zip supports the formats 7z, XZ, BZIP2, GZIP, TAR, ZIP and WIM, the file types ARJ, CAB, CHM, CPIO, CramFS, DEB, DMG, FAT, HFS, ISO, LZH, LZMA, MBR, MSI, NSIS, NTFS, RAR, RPM, SquashFS, UDF, VHD, WIM, XAR and Z can only be unpacked. Particularly high compression rates are achieved thanks to LZMA compression in its own 7z format.

In addition to just packing and unpacking, 7-Zip also offers a number of other useful functions for handling archives. For example, you can securely encrypt 7z and ZIP archives with AES-256 and create self-extracting 7z archives. The download also contains a command line version.

Pack better with 7Zip

The open source packing program 7-Zip can handle almost all common archive files. In its own 7z format, data can often be packed even more strongly than with other compression methods – this saves valuable storage space on the hard drive and speeds up the transmission of data over the Internet.
