An 84-year-old driver injured several Christmas market visitors in Düsseldorf on Tuesday evening. The police assume an accident.
There was a car accident on the Düsseldorf shopping mile Königsallee not far from the Christmas market with several injuries. An 84-year-old lost control of his car early Tuesday evening and then drove into parked e-scooters, a police spokesman said.
Two seriously injured pedestrians were initially reported, but the police later corrected this number: at least six people were injured, one of them seriously.
The cause of the accident is unclear, but human error is assumed, the police spokesman said. Diffuse light conditions and the drizzle may have played a role. The driver and his passenger were shocked. The ceremonial activation of the light dome over the Kö-Graben planned for the evening was canceled after the accident. (talk to dpa)
