Microsoft has announced the arrival of a new expansion dedicated to Age of Empires 3 Definitive Edition. Among the many innovations provided in this additional content, there are also the Italian and Maltese civilizations.
As its title suggests, Age of Empires 3 Definitive Edition – Knights of the Meditteranean it is directed to the Mediterranean region, and will pay particular attention to the continental nation of Italy and the island of Malta. The Italian units include the Architect and the Pavisier armed with a crossbow, while the Maltese show up with the Sentinel armed with a musket, the incendiary Fire Launcher and more. Nine other minor civilizations, based on royal houses from various eras and European countries, will be part of the expansion.
These new factions, along with the existing ones, will be able to fight for control of Historical Maps, or “a new variant of random maps” that is based on wars that actually happened, but the player’s objectives will change each time when a new game is started. This – the developers hope – should give the mode one potentially infinite replayability.
Two more will arrive new modes. Diplomacy, available on all maps, intorduce a new twist to the free-for-all action: it will be possible to change your alliance in the middle of the conflict itself. The Thirty Years War Historical Map was created specifically for this mode.
Tycooninstead, it is based on the economy and will crown the winner who has paid more attention to their own finances than to the accumulation of armies and the construction of great fortresses.
As suggested in the presentation video that we reported at the beginning, Knights of the Mediterranean will be available starting May 26th on Windows PC (also on PC Game Pass and Steam). Recall that with the February update, Age of Empires 3 Definitive Edition is also playable in co-op.
