The President of the Nation, Alberto Fernández, congratulated the triumph of Gustavo Petro in the presidential elections in Colombia and called to follow “the path towards an integrated Latin America”.
“The triumph fills me with joy obtained by Gustavo Petro and Francia Marquez Mina with which the electoral process in Colombia culminates,” wrote Fernandez on his Twitter account.
And he added: “I have just conveyed to the president-elect my congratulations for the trust that the Colombian people have placed in him”.
In this sense, the president assured that Petro’s victory “validates democracy and ensures the path towards an integrated Latin America, at this time that demands the maximum solidarity between brother peoples.”
The senator and former mayor of Bogota Gustavo Petro is the new elected president of Colombia, according to the results of the official pre-count of today’s second round, in which he defeated Rodolfo Hernandez.
Petrocandidate of the Historical Pact, added 50.88% of the votes, compared to 46.85% for Hernández.
