Two years have now passed since the market launch of the second AirPods generation, which essentially could only stand out from the original form of Apple headphones with an improved audio chip and the optional wireless charging case. After various speculations, the starting shot of the third generation should now be given. And in the usual Apple manner, experts assume that the leftovers will be recycled again.
First leaks indicate an AirPods Pro design
Surprise or just old wine in new bottles?
Given the leaks and rumors of the last few months as well as the new “confirmations” from the often well-informed insider PandaIsBald (via MacRumors) Trust, the new Truly wireless headphones are based on the design of the AirPods Pro, which has also been available for two years. In contrast to the much more expensive headphones, the AirPods 3 should dispense with active noise cancellation (ANC for short) and a shielding in-ear design.
So far it is unclear whether Apple will keep the second generation with long bars at a low entry-level price in its range or whether the more compact AirPods 3 will replace them. The current models in the Apple Store are priced at 179 euros with a classic charging case and 229 euros with a wireless charging case, while retailers have the headphones in price comparison from 125 euros. So far, it can be assumed that Apple will take over the prices of the second generation for the new third generation models.
It is to be expected that the Californians will shed light on October 18, 2021 (Monday) and appear alongside new MacBooks and the Apple M1X chip with new AirPods. The broadcast of the Apple event begins at 7 p.m. German time. As usual, we will include the live stream in our big special.
