That reports that Bloomberg online magazine with reference to “well-informed sources”. Since the split into iOS and iPadOS, the major version updates for the Apple operating systems have always come out together. That should now be different for the first time this fall with the change to version 16.
Apple should therefore not release its upcoming major software update at the same time for various reasons. According to Bloomberg, Apple may not release iPadOS 16 until October because the company is “making an ambitious effort to overhaul the iPad’s multitasking capabilities.” That would mean the release of the iPad software update would be delayed by up to a month.
Stage manager issues
The multitasking ability that still needs improvement is probably the stage manager. The Stage Manager allows, among other things, to change the size of windows, open multiple apps at the same time and much more. According to reports, the stage manager is currently still frequently criticized by beta testers. The application is too buggy and confusing. Bloomberg also claims that Apple has generally lagged behind internal OS development schedules this year. Also, pushing back the release date of iPadOS 16 would bring the launch closer to the release of new iPad hardware. Apple could then pair the release with the unveiling of an iPad Pro with an M2 chip and an updated 10.2-inch iPad with USB-C.
