ARD Degeto announced the winners of its two young talent awards in Munich today. The “Killerstories Series Award” was presented for the first time, the streaming award for young talents from ARD Degeto and ARD Mediathek in the area of mystery, horror, suspense. Due to the outstanding number of almost 100 submissions, Degeto decided to present two “Killerstories Series Awards”: Josy Scheffler from the German Film and Television Academy in Berlin received the award for her series concept “Sidonia”. Arvid Klapper and Valentin Burkhardt from the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy were honored for “Cold, Clear Water”.

The award ceremony took place as part of the “Degeto Campus”, the new event series of ARD Degeto, which will deal with important, current topics in the TV and film industry in the future. Thomas Schreiber, Managing Director of ARD Degeto, emphasized the importance of the young talent prizes as an important component of ARD Degeto’s promotion of young talent.

Thomas Schreiber: “If we want to make the ARD streaming platform attractive for younger target groups, we need content that they also want to watch. Innovation, radicalism and diversity should also come about organically from the users of the streaming platform themselves. That’s why it’s from our It’s only logical to approach young filmmakers directly and let them develop their content for us.”

Christoph Pellander: “Congratulations to the great winners, who were able to completely convince the jury with their projects. We were so enthusiastic that we even selected and awarded two fabrics from almost 100 submissions, and we are committed to their production and realization We are already looking forward to it. The ideas are brilliant, clever and, above all, have a narrative power that expands our ARD Degeto portfolio to include the horror genre in a grandiose way.”

The jury statement under the patronage of Christian Schwochow says about “Sidonia”: “Linguistically brilliant, psychologically precise and atmospherically dense, the concept ‘Sidonia’ tells a story about loss, identity and forgiveness with a cleverly constructed paranormal. The characters have unexpected abysses , raise questions and imaginatively mix the levels between reality and intangible worlds. Psychological horror at its finest.”

“Sidonia” is to be produced by Schiwago Film, as was also announced today.

The jury justified the choice of Arvid Klapper and Valentin Burkhardt for the concept as follows: “The series ‘Kaltes Klares Wasser’ fascinates with the effortless play between unusual imagery and twists that you can’t see coming. The horror genre is created by a variety of elements: a lake that suddenly appears and seems to have a powerful life of its own and residents whose emotional struggles with themselves and their past are inextricably linked to the area in the East German provinces. They all seem to be in a vacuum between bygone times and a Future that hasn’t started to get stuck yet.”

Studio Zentral will produce the series concept of “Kaltes klares Wasser” on behalf of ARD Degeto for the ARD Mediathek.

Madeleine Hartung and Julia Schubeius from the Baden-Württemberg Academy received the Impuls Prize 2022, the young talent prize for the slot “Endlich Freitag im Erste”, which has been successfully established for eight years, for their exposé “Jaqueline”. The Impulse Prize has been awarded by ARD Degeto since 2014 and guarantees a treatment order for the popular Friday evening slot. This year, the prize was advertised for the first time under the main topic “Diversity”.

In the jury’s statement on “Jaqueline” it says: “With depth and subtlety, the exposé tells of the fragile search for identity of a short person and convinces with a complex web of plots and characters that cleverly uses ‘game-in-game elements’ to bring events to life to condense, to make ambivalences and conflicting interests of the characters visible. The authors describe in a comprehensible and psychologically precise manner how the rigid claim to self-assertion of their illustrious title heroine leads to ever new conflicts and injuries – in the world as well as within the family. (… ) With her frivolous core statement ‘Recognize yourself in others’, she makes a contribution to the visibility of and dealing with diversity.”

The impulse prize gives you the chance to develop the material through to the final screenplay. Five exposés have now been filmed and have been shown successfully in the “Endlich Freitag im Erste” slot, in the ARD media center and in the third programs.
