One of the most powerful chips of the moment

Visually, the ROG Phone 6, 6 Pro, 6D and 6D Ultimate could be confused. However, these are two different ranges: the 6 and 6 Pro are equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. While the 6D and 6D Ultimate have a MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ chip. This is the first collaboration between Asus and MediaTek, and it’s the first time we’ve seen the 9000+ in action.

Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 MediaTek Dimensity 9000+
CPU Octa-core: 1 Cortex-X2 at 3.2 GHz, 3 Cortex-A710 at 2.75 GHz and 4 Cortex-A510 at 1.8 GHz Octa-core: 1 Cortex-X2 at 3.2 GHz, 3 Cortex-A710 at 2.85 GHz and 4 Cortex-A510 at 1.8 GHz

Modem Qualcomm Snapdragon X65 5G 3GPP Realease-16 5G
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Fast Connect 6900 Beidou III-B1C
ISP Qualcomm Spectra with 8K HDR10+ Imagiq 790 with 8K HDR+

Technically, the chips from Qualcomm and MediaTek are very close. However, MediaTek says it has created an even more powerful ARM chip than Qualcomm’s.

The fact that both SoCs are built in the same factory with the same architecture and manufacturing process also contributes to this comparison. Although, on a deeper level, it’s obvious that MediaTek uses different solutions outside the scope of its ARM license. It should also be noted that the MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ SoC incorporates an overlocked ARM Mali G710 graphics chip.

Moreover, the version 6D Ultimate uses a new heat dissipation system: the AeroActive Portal. It is a hatch that will open to evacuate the heat through the air. This system is unheard of on a smartphone, since it is a real mechanical system that is activated when you plug in the AeroActive Cooler 6. It is for a specific use, nevertheless this cooling is supposed to be very effective: ” Specially designed fins increase thermal surface area by up to 9 times and improve thermal efficiency by up to 20% when the AeroActive Portal is activated “.
