Migration issues are on the agenda of a Council of Ministers this Thursday, then of the European Council in early February. Discussions should focus on the “external” dimension, in particular relations with countries of origin.

LLast year, 924,000 men, women and children applied for international protection within the European Union. “A figure which is up by almost 50% compared to 2021”, commented this week, the European Commissioner in charge of Migration. In absolute terms, Germany, France, Spain and Austria register the highest number of asylum applications. In proportion to the number of inhabitants, Cyprus ranks first in the ranking, ahead of Austria and Greece, Belgium being sixth.
