Previously unknown perpetrators blew up an ATM in downtown Neuss early on Friday morning. It is unclear whether they caught any prey. The building was severely damaged.

The crime scene is just a few steps across from Neuss main station. Witnesses heard two explosions and alerted the police at 2.52 a.m.

The perpetrators sped off in the direction of the Autobahn

Three men then fled in a highly motorized car in the direction of the motorway, as a police spokesman said on Friday morning. The detonations triggered in the vestibule of the Postbank branch.

The police have received a number of references from witnesses. The ATM and the vestibule were significantly damaged by the demolition. It was initially unclear whether the perpetrators stole money. Under the rubble at the scene of the crime there were also banknotes that had been canceled with paint.

The perpetrators are being searched for. (with dpa)
