Bad Wörishofen – Munich star at the Festival of Nations

At 13 she stood next to Justus Frantz (78) in Bad Wörishofen on the big stage. Today Julia Fischer (39) enchants the whole world with her violin.

At the Festival of Nations (September 23rd – October 2nd), the native of Munich returns to where she started her career. Like her great conductor, she wants to be the stirrup holder for 60 people in the youth orchestra that accompanies her.

“It’s important to me to show children and young people what it means to be able to do it professionally,” explained Julia. “The competition is tough.”

After a call from the Bavarian Ministry of Culture, 250 young people between the ages of 11 and 17 from all over Bavaria signed up to audition. The selection for the “Bavarian National Team” (festival organizer Werner Roch) was made by members of the BR Symphony Orchestra.

At the end of the festival days, the Munich star tenor Jonas Kaufmann (53) comes to the provinces. “We don’t have to hide behind Bayreuth or Salzburg,” says Werner Roch. “There is no other festival at which great artists (in Wörishofen also Rolando Villazon, Igor Levit, Elina Garanca/ ed.) appear in such a close succession.”
