The Belgian national team started the World Cup with a narrow 1-0 win over Canada. In the first half, the Canadians surprisingly took the reins. They combined again and again handsomely in the last third of the Belgians. The Canucks were awarded a penalty early in the game (9th), but Alphonso Davies from Bayern Munich was unable to convert it. Thibaut Courtois safely parried the poorly shot penalty. Towards the end of the first half, the red devils were finally able to put a pinprick. Ex-Dortmunder Michy Batshuayi scored a flattering lead in the 44th minute.
The Maple Leafs also played well in the second half, but were unable to reward their efforts with a goal. From the 70th minute, the Canadians ran out of breath and the offensive actions became less precise. The Belgians, meanwhile, hardly achieved any significant actions. With their lucky 1-0 win, the Belgians took the lead in Group F.
