BMW i Ventures leads investment in optical AI technology company Alilithon

BMW i Ventures announced today that they have made a $10 million Series A investment in optical artificial intelligence technology company Alilithon. The company’s FeaturePrint technology quickly and easily digitizes physical objects for irrefutable identification, verification and tracking, and eliminates misidentification and misuse of items. BMW i Ventures previously invested in the company’s seed round and co-led the round with Imagine Ventures, a Seattle-based venture capital firm.

Counterfeit products are a $2.3 trillion annual problem and continue to grow globally. By using additives and outdated solutions such as stickers, barcodes and QR codes to identify items, companies put themselves at high risk of losing traceability and facing counterfeit products. Alitheon’s patented FeaturePrint technology creates the fingerprint-to-person effect of an item – a unique, unique identifier that does not require any changes to the item. By capturing an image of an item using a standard off-the-shelf camera, FeaturePrint Optical AI “sees” the item’s tiny surface details and renders them into its unique silhouette. Therefore, this can be effectively identified among millions of similar products, ensuring the authenticity and provenance of the product.

“The counterfeit crisis is a major cause of concern – not just for economic reasons, but for personal safety,” said Marcus Behrendt, managing partner of BMW i Ventures. “Alitheon’s cutting-edge technology and bringing trust and safety back to supply The capabilities of the chain are groundbreaking. Having participated in Alilithon’s seed funding, we have seen the growth of the team and the growing potential of its technology, and are excited to lead their Series A as they bring their products to market.”

FeaturePrint is designed by Alitheon to be easy to use and does not require any special hardware investment, changes to the production line, or physical changes to the project. Using only standard cameras, FeaturePrint enables irrefutable authentication, identification and traceability of individual items. By implementing FeaturePrint, counterfeiting can be avoided, part misidentification is eliminated, and incorrect product usage is minimized. FeaturePrint is the missing link between the digital and physical worlds.

Alitheon is solving identification, authentication and traceability challenges across multiple industries, including automotive, aerospace, collectibles, industrial manufacturing, luxury goods, medical and precious metals. Its technology is used by multiple customers and integrated into global operations. With the new funding, Altheon aims to invest in new talent and accelerate its sales and marketing efforts to drive the expansion of its FeaturePrint technology into more industries.
