Bundesliga comeback? Three clubs on Weigl

It’s been two and a half years since Julian Weigl (26) turned his back on Borussia Dortmund and started the Portugal adventure at Benfica Lisbon. The German legionnaire has played 111 games for the Adler to date and has been an undisputed regular in midfield. But coach Roger Schmidt doesn’t seem to be counting on ball distributors. Weigl will no longer be put in the way of a suitable offer.

According to a report by Record, Benfica are ready to sell Weigl for less than €20m. This amount was transferred to BVB in January 2020. Now it is those 15 million that Benfica would be satisfied with. There seems to be a lot of interest – also from the Bundesliga.

Accordingly, Eintracht Frankfurt, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Hertha BSC have already inquired about the six-time German international. But West Ham United, AC Milan and Atalanta Bergamo are said to have already asked about the defensive midfielder, it is said. However, no official offer has arrived at Benfica’s office so far. Weigl’s lavish salary is cited as a major obstacle.
