Karim Adeyemi is Borussia Dortmund’s new forward hope. On Tuesday – almost at the same time as the announcement of the Erling-Haaland transfer – BVB announced the commitment of the 20-year-old, who is to inherit the Norwegian prodigy in the storm center. Adeyemi comes from RB Salzburg for an estimated 30 million euros and has signed in Dortmund until 2027.

The 20-year-old has already won the Austrian Bundesliga three times and is leading the scorers’ list this season with 19 goals. Adeyemi is also known to fans of the national team: last year he was European champion with the German U21s, and he was substituted on by Hansi Flick for the first time in the World Cup qualifier against Armenia in September. He scored his first international goal directly.

Schlotterbeck downplays stress ECG

Adeyemi has already met several Dortmund players during his time with the national team (and youth teams). At BVB there will be a reunion with Nico Schlotterbeck, among other thingswho comes from SC Freiburg in the summer.

In fact, Adeyemi has already asked Schlotterbeck how the contract signing and medical check went in Dortmund. “At the beginning I asked Schlotti what he was doing that day,” he revealed in a first Interview with BVB TV.

“He said: ‘Just ten minutes of easy cycling.’ But he absolutely lied to me. It was really exhausting.”says the U21 European champion after completing the medical check.

We’re talking about the stress ECG, for which the players have to pedal on the bicycle ergometer. In fact, Schlotterbeck probably understated the effort, because: The results of this examination are only usable if the patient has really pushed himself to the maximum performance (i.e. until the heart and lungs can no longer work any faster).

BVB wants to attack with three national players

Adeyemi doesn’t blame his colleague from the defense for his misleading modesty. “We’re definitely looking forward to seeing each other again, playing in the same team. And we get along really well, the three of us.”he also revealed with regard to national player Niklas Süle, who is moving to Dortmund from Bayern Munich.

With the three German national players, BVB wants to put even more pressure on series champions FC Bayern in the future. With a view to the renewed runner-up position, Adeyemi at least has ambitious goals: “Every year they came close to winning the title. With a bit of luck and even more points, we win the league.”
