Since time immemorial, cinema and television have given us the idea of what it would be like to travel to space and life in this enormous place in the universe. We could mention a lot of examples within pop culture, but without a doubt in the top 3 it would have to appear Star Trek, that throughout so many productions we were blown away with the possibility of going beyond this planet. And even if you don’t believe it, William Shatner achieved this dream.
As you read it, the iconic 90-year-old actor who played Captain Kirk in the original 1960s series, got to go to space thanks to Blue Origin, Jeff Bezos’ aerospace company (by the way, HERE You can check how the trip that the former Amazon CEO went on). This was not only a personal goal for Shatner, but also became the oldest person in all of history to leave Earth, there just to check the data.
William Shatner was finally able to travel to space
In the beginning, it was planned that William Shatner viajara junto a Audrey Powers, Vice President of Mission and Flight Operations at Blue Origin, as well as the crew members, Chris Boshuizen and Glen de Vries last October 12. However, weather conditions did not allow the launch to take place in a timely manner, that is why they decided to postpone everything for a day later.
Finally, this October 13 and to everyone’s surprise, Shatner boarded the space shuttle, Blue Origin and at about 8 in the morning (Central Mexico time) and almost an hour and a half later, he took off from the Site of Launch One, in Texas, along with the entire crew. So you will have an idea, the actor and all the passengers flew more than 100 kilometers above the earth’s surface, on the border between the earth’s atmosphere and outer space.
The launch was a success and Captain Kirk enjoyed this experience
Total, William Shatner and company spent 11 minutes outside of Earth and experienced about four minutes of weightlessness while aboard the space shuttle. After this and after a few maneuvers, they returned safely. Of course, at this very special moment, Jeff Bezos himself could not be absent, who was present at the place where the crew landed to congratulate and celebrate with the great Captain Kirk.
“I’ve been hearing about space for a long time. I’m taking the opportunity to see it for myself. What a miracle”Shatner said before launch, and we couldn’t agree more. During all this time, 90 year old actor (Or should we call him from now on the greatest person to travel to space?) he was filming his experience for a documentary which will premiere in the future. But while that happens check below how the launch was put.
