Carolina beat Boston – Antti Raanta phenomenal in the decisive match: & quot; The biggest in my career & quot;

A brilliant match between the posts by Antti Raanta and two points by Teuvo Teräväinen secured Carolina’s advancement to the next playoff round. For Toronto, it was another playoff disappointment, Tampa Bay won the seventh game.

In the first six games of the series between the Carolina Hurricanes and the Boston Bruins, they were purely home victories. Should this trend be broken in match seven or would the home ground advantage determine?

The answer was later. Carolina won for the fourth time at home and beat Boston after 3-2 in the decisive match.

– It’s so much fun to play here at home, it’s everything you want as a player and dream of. Our fans have been incredible and it only gets better, says team captain Jordan Staal after the victory that was taken in front of almost 20,000 screaming supporters.

Two Finns were central in the last match. Teuvo Teräväinen made it 1-0 at the end of the first period and played until Max Domis’ 3-1 goal in the middle of the match.

In Carolina’s goal, Antti Raanta made a great match. In the middle of the first period, he made a phenomenal save on Taylor Hall’s shot.

– If we had scored a goal there, the match could have been different. If we take the lead, it will be a bit uphill for them, says Boston coach Bruce Cassidy.

Raanta has taken the chance

In the end, there were 27 saves on 29 shots for Raanta, who was named the second star of the match. The Finn has really taken the chance in the playoffs as Frederik Andersen is injured.

– When “Freddie” was injured and no one knew how long he was gone, I felt it was time for me to step forward and take care of this. It was probably noticed in the first match that I was nervous, although it went well.

– This is the biggest thing in my career, we lost a goalkeeper at Vezina level and I have filled his boots. That’s why this victory also means so much. During the spring, I have noticed that the guys trust me and now it does not matter who is in the goal, says Raanta to Yle Urheilu.

The second playoff round kicks off in a few days and there Carolina will face either the New York Rangers or the Pittsburgh Penguins.

– It does not matter which team we meet. If we can play our own game and still develop a little away from home, we will be strong, says Raanta.

Tampa Bay knocked out Toronto

For the Toronto Maple Leafs, the playoff nightmare continues. The team has not won a playoff series since 2004 and now they went out against Tampa Bay Lightning. The reigning champions won the seventh match 2-1.

– This will hurt for a while. We need to make sure we come back stronger and faster. I’m starting to get tired of this so we have to make sure we’re ready for next season, says Mitch Marner.

Nicholas Paul won the match. He made both 1-0 and decisive 2-1 for Tampa Bay who will face Florida in the next round.

– All players were on top, ready and confident. We came here to win and together we succeeded, says Paul.

McDavid took Edmonton to the next round

Connor McDavid stood for 1 + 1 when the Edmonton Oilers beat the Los Angeles Kings in the seventh and decisive match. Edmonton won 2-0 at home last night.

– I’m proud of the whole team and how we get back in this series, says McDavid.

This is the first time in five years that Edmonton will advance to the second playoff round. In the next round, either Dallas or Calgary awaits.

– This means everything, and especially to do it at home. We’ve been waiting a long time for this. We are not ready yet, it is a long way to go but we are ready, says McDavid.
