Chelsea want RB boss Mintzlaff

Todd Boehly dreams of a football syndicate based on the Red Bull model. The basic idea: similar to the example of Leipzig, Salzburg and Co., the new Chelsea boss wants to sift through players, train them and ultimately bring them to the Blues as ready-made stars.

“Red Bull is doing a really good job with Leipzig and Salzburg, both playing in the Champions League. Man City also has a large network of clubs. The challenge that Chelsea have at the moment is that you can loan 18-, 19- or 20-year-old superstars to clubs but put their development in the hands of another club.”said Boehly.

Mintzlaff should bring in experience

Someone who has already gained a lot of experience with such a company structure at RB could make a contribution to this. As ‘The Athletic’ reports, the Londoners want to install Oliver Mintzlaff as CEO. The first talks with the 47-year-old CEO of RB Leipzig are said to have already taken place.

Mintzlaff is contractually bound to RB until 2026. From Chelsea’s point of view, a possible transfer fee should not be a hurdle, as the summer transfer market showed, where the Blues invested more than 280 million euros.

So the decision will depend on the 47-year-old himself. According to ‘Bild’, there is at least a first tendency towards Mintzlaff wanting to fulfill his contract in Leipzig. If he were to move to London, he would also meet Christoph Freund. The sports director is about to move from Leipzig’s sister club RB Salzburg to Stamford Bridge.
