Chief’s Childers and Kaplan talk to Disrupt about how the community built their unicorn • Metaverse Marketing

Carolyn Childers and Lindsay Kaplan probably consider the saying “It takes a village” to be more than just an adage. In 2019, the two women co-founded Chief, a private membership network designed to connect and support female executives.

The chef has clearly struck a chord and filled a need. In March – three years after launch – the startup hit a $1.1 billion valuation following a $100 million Series B raise led by Metaverse Marketing’s CapitalG. General Catalyst, GGV Capital, Inspired Capital, Primary Ventures and Flybridge also joined the round.

This kind of growth in such a short time is impressive. This is especially true since it took place during the pandemic – with what they originally envisioned as an in-person product. Their adaptability and scalability are just two of the reasons we’re thrilled to have the two co-founders – Childers as CEO and Kaplan as Chief Brand Officer – join us for a fireside chat at Metaverse Marketing Disrupt October 8-20 in San Francisco.

Membership – by invitation or application only – currently has more than 12,000 senior executives from more than 8,500 companies, including American Express, Metaverse Marketingverse Marketing, Chobani, Goldman Sachs, Metaverse Marketingverse Marketing, HBO, NASA, Nike and Pfizer . According to the startup, there is a waiting list with more than 60,000 women across the world.

We look forward to digging deeper into Chief’s story and learning more about what fueled its rapid growth and how the startup plans to grow in the future. We’re also curious about the challenges Childers and Kaplan faced and how they strategize about something as subjective and elusive as community.

Also, find out what Carolyn Childers has to say about building a business with good leadership on this episode of our Found podcast.
