Covid-19: faced with the resumption of the epidemic, should we take out the masks?

Gilles Pialoux, Alain Fischer or even Patrick Pelloux call for a return of the mask, at least in public transport. The Minister of Health believes that “the current measures are sufficient”.

A month after the lifting of the obligation to wear a mask in transport, the subject is once again being debated. While the Minister of Health Brigitte Bourguignon assured Thursday that “the current measures are sufficient” in the face of the new increase in Covid-19 cases and considered that the obligation of the mask should not be “absolute”, several specialists pronounced in favor of his return.

Asked about this on BFMTV this Friday morning, Gilles Pialoux called for “individual responsibility”.

“It is not because the mask is not compulsory that it is not recommended” hammered the head of the infectious and tropical diseases department of the Tenon hospital in Paris, also stressing that “we is in a political situation where decision-making will be more complex” due to the forthcoming resignation of the Minister of Health, beaten in the legislative elections, and the end of the absolute majority of the presidential party in the Assembly.

Patrick Pelloux also regretted on our antenna this policy of “do what you want”.

“We must put the mask back on transport, I think it must be compulsory […] A public health policy is an invasive policy for the protection of the greatest number. You can’t say ‘you do what you want’, it’s not possible”, he declared, considering that Olivier Véran was “wrong” by lifting this obligation.

Same story on the side of Jean-Paul Hamon, general practitioner and honorary president of the federation of doctors of France.

“I think it was a mistake to stop putting on masks in transport, because we are very close to each other,” he said on BFMTV.

He also noted less use of hydroalcoholic gel at the entrance to stores. “The barrier gestures we want to forget them because it’s been going on for two years, that the French are fed up, we are the first. But caution is in order”, he warned.

“A small effort to protect fragile people” for Alain Fischer

This is a question that “is seriously discussed” for Alain Fischer, and about which the “Mr. Vaccin” of the government makes a difference between fragile people and the rest of the population.

The return to wearing a mask in transport is envisaged “certainly for fragile people, and probably for the whole population, because it is a collective protection measure. By making the small effort to wear the mask, we are helping to protect fragile people”, declared the president of the Council for the orientation of the vaccine strategy on France 2.

79,852 new cases of Covid-19 have been detected in the past 24 hours in France, according to data from Public Health Francea figure up 50.4% in seven days.
