Cristiano Ronaldo’s second spell at Manchester United has not been crowned with great success. Because even if the Portuguese showed his usual accuracy (24 goals in 38 games), his troubled club only finished 7th in the domestic league and thus missed qualifying for the Champions League.
This is a novelty for the ambitious top star. Ronaldo has been playing the Champions League uninterrupted for 19 years and holds almost all relevant records there. The premier class is considered “his” competition. It’s hard to imagine that Ronaldo will “only” play in the second-rate Europa League next season.
Ronaldo doesn’t want to play the Europa League
The English daily newspaper now wants the superstar to be unable to imagine that either.TheTimes” have experienced. Accordingly, Ronaldo is said to have asked the ManUnited bosses for release. If a good offer flutters in, he wants to be allowed to leave the club this summer, despite his contract, which is still valid until 2023.
“The Times” writes that the 37-year-old Ronaldo says he can still compete at the highest level for “three or four years”. And of course he wants to spend it on Europe’s biggest football stage: the Champions League.
Salihamidžić denies Bayern rumor
For that he would have to switch to a club that, unlike ManUnited, has qualified. AS Roma, with whom Ronaldo has recently been linked because his ex-coach and promoter José Mourinho is in charge there, would not be such a club. Roma “only” play the Europa League next season and are said to be financially unable to handle a Ronaldo transfer.
Bayern Munich will almost certainly not. Sports director Hasan Salihamidžić recently denied the rumors to “Sky”. “Cristiano Ronaldo is a top player with an outstanding career. However, the rumor that is circulating is a rumor that has nothing to do with it.”
Ronaldo advisor speaks to another club
The following sounds much more likely: At Chelsea they are said to be thinking about a transfer from Ronaldo. Allegedly, the new club owner Todd Boehly and Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes have already met in Portugal and discussed a possible move. In addition to the prospect of Champions League football, the Londoners can also offer Ronaldo a lot of money.
