Culture & Music: MiR: The last chance to see the opera “Carmen”.

In Gelsenkirchen’s Musiktheater im Revier, some pieces are on the program for the last time at the end of the season – such as the opera “Carmen”.

The 2021/22 season on Music theater in the Revier (MiR) has entered the home straight: On the last weekend in June, two plays can be experienced for the very last time: On Friday, June 24th, from 7.30 p.m. in the Small House, this is the praised double evening “Das Wundertheater/Wachsfigurenkabinett” by Hans Werner Henze and Karl Amadeus Hartmann, the next day at the same time Paul Hindemith’s fast-paced media satire “News from the day” in the big house.

Lina Hoffmann was acclaimed and celebrated for her role debut as “Carmen”.

With her sparkling production, director Sonja Trebes has impressively shown how relevant the opera “News of the Day” from 1929 has remained to this day. In his interpretation, conductor Giuliano Betta reveals the numerous musical influences of the score, lets the jazz echoes, the Kurt Weill sound and the operetta bliss sparkle – not forgetting Hindemith’s tongue-in-cheek parodies of Wagner and Strauss.

The last performance of this season is dedicated to the most famous opera of all: “Carmen” by Georges Bizet. Lina Hoffmann made an acclaimed debut in the title role. On Sunday, June 26, at 6 p.m., she will return to the arena with Khanyiso Gwenxane as Don José.
