Dimitrios Grammozis, who took over the Schalke pros towards the end of the 2020/21 relegation season and also trained at the beginning of the current season, was no longer on the sidelines. The Greek was on leave in March because the top floor no longer believed he was capable of promotion at that point. The Schalke club legend Mike Büskens took over for him, took six wins from seven games and steered the Schalke team into first place.
Grammozi’s contract extended, salary reportedly doubled
However, Grammozis is still an employee of FC Schalke 04, because he was not fired in March, just put on leave. He continues to collect a salary and now even success clauses apply: Because of Schalke’s rise, Grammozis’ contract is automatically extended until 2023, and he should also receive a lavish salary increase. According to “Sportbild”. his salary is said to have even doubled from 400,000 euros to 800,000 euros. sports1 even reports a tripling of the salary and assumes an increase from 500,000 euros to 1.5 million euros.
Schalke sports director Rouven Schröder confirmed at least the contract extension to “Sky90”: “Yes, Grammozis’ contract has been extended. He is also part of the promotion team and he deserves a lot of thanks.”
Schalke again looking for a coach
Schalke and Grammozis could mutually terminate the contract for a severance payment. However, it is currently not known whether there have already been discussions about this or not.
Meanwhile, Grammozi’s successor Mike Büskens only wants to remain head coach until the end of the season and then work as an assistant coach again. Therefore, S04 is looking for a trainer again. It would be possible to fall back on Grammozis, who is still on the payroll, but in view of the previous unsuccessful cooperation it is relatively unlikely.
Actually, Sebastian Vettel and Mick Schumacher are good friends and support each other. However, on the 54th lap of the race in Miami, the two Formula 1 drivers got too close.
