The disappearance of flight MH370, one of the biggest mysteries in aviation
On Saturday March 8, 2014, at precisely 12:41 a.m., the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 took off from the international airport of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysian capital, bound for Beijing, capital of the People’s Republic of China. On board, two hundred and twenty-seven passengers and twelve crew members. Less than an hour later, Flight MH370 disappeared from the radar. Despite extensive collaborative research by several countries to find the aircraft and its passengers, attempts remain unsuccessful. The wreckage of the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 is never found. Accidental crash, pilot suicide, terrorist act? Various theories try in vain to explain this mystery. Debris discovered in 2015 in Reunion Island, then in Mozambique, Tanzania, South Africa and Mauritius will not provide any elements likely to shed light on the fate of the passengers on flight MH370.
Where are we today?
For several months, searches to find the device covered 112,000 km² south of the Indian Ocean. Australia, China and Malaysia had united to explore an area of 120,000 km². But in July 2018, the report of the international investigative team led by Malaysia put an end to the technical investigation following “a significant lack of available evidence to allow the team to determine with any certainty the reasons that caused the aircraft to depart from its intended route“. Only the irreducible Gallic country, France, continues its investigations through a judicial investigation conducted by two Parisian examining magistrates.
