EA says it is on its way to becoming the biggest independent publisher in the world

At a recent presentation of Electronic Arts’ financial results, CEO Andrew Wilson made a point of reacting to recent takeover rumors and the company’s position in the industry.

What if EA became the biggest independent publisher in the world?

As a reminder, many rumors suggest that the American publisher could be bought by NBCUniversal, Amazon, Apple or even Disney. Wishing to know Wilson’s feelings about his allegations, the journalists present on the spot questioned him on the subject and, although he also replied that he would not comment on “the rumors and speculations of certain media “, he then made a point of developing his remarks:

EA is in an incredible position and will soon become the largest independent developer and publisher of interactive entertainment in the world.

The man then went on to say that his goal as chairman is to “take care” of employees, players and shareholders, while adding that the company currently feels “very, very confident and excited” for his coming.

In that same interview, Wilson also touched on the current console lifecycle, and how supply issues are affecting EA’s strategy. According to him, we are still “very early” in this cycle which could last another eight to ten years and which will mark the continuity of Electronic Arts’ activities:

You should expect us to continue to invest deeply in our existing intellectual property in our EA Sports portfolio, but you should similarly expect that as we go through this cycle we will invest more to have a stronger franchise inventory in the second half of the cycle.

As a reminder, EA also shared its release schedule for fiscal year 2022-2023. We thus find FIFA 23 and Madden NFL 23 for the third quarter of 2022 and Need for Speed and NHL for the end of the year. Finally, the start of 2023 should see the arrival of Dead Space Remake, PGA Tour, Super Mega Baseball, as well as a partner title and a major franchise.
