According to the study “Smartphones Market in Mexico: Evolution, Relevance and Reconfiguration”, published by CIU, at the end of the first half of the year, in our country there are a total of 127.7 million cell lines, of which 118.4 million correspond to smartphones. In the same period, an average spending per smartphone of 4,328 pesos was recorded, which represents an increase of 6.7% over the previous year.
The study also reveals the variables that the end user considers when purchasing a smartphone, among which are, in order of importance: price, storage capacity, device processor, camera resolution, operating system and battery life. Another interesting piece of information is knowing the growth in sales of mid-range smartphones during the months of the pandemic.
According to Gonzalo Rojon, an expert in the field, without a doubt the smartphone market is an atypical case in the Mexican economy, since the structure of this market is clearly competitive and countercyclical, this due to the increasing number of competitors that have been placed in the Mexican market as options. The study shows us the distribution of the smartphone market in Mexico, whose leader is Samsung with 34.2% of the total fleet of smartphones, followed by Motorola (21.8%), Huawei (13.9%), Apple (11.8%) and LG (5.2%) ) making up the top 5.
Curiously, LG decided to close its mobile equipment division, while Huawei faces, since 2019, a ban to use Google services, which complicates its permanence in the market.
The studies that CIU constantly publishes give observers, analysts and other stakeholders tools to make decisions in this regard. Currently the smartphone market is more dynamic and competitive, which provides customers with a better environment for decision-making.
