France: a patient files a complaint after a rape in the emergency room

UA woman victim of rape at the Cochin hospital in Paris at the end of October by another patient of the establishment filed a complaint against X on Wednesday for “endangering the lives of others”, we learned on Thursday with his lawyer.

The 34-year-old patient had been admitted to the emergency room on the night of October 27 to 28 following a head trauma after feeling unwell, explained to AFP Me Laura Abecassis, confirming information from Parisian and RMC .

Around 4:00 a.m., a nurse surprised a man in the young woman’s cubicle, raping her with his fingers while she was asleep, then saw him flee, according to a source familiar with the matter.

Thanks to the description of the caregiver and the patient, the man was quickly arrested not far from the hospital by the anti-crime brigade (Bac) of the 14th arrondissement of the capital, shortly after 5:00 a.m., according to the same source.

According to RMC and Le Parisien, the man was carrying the victim’s credit card.

A 22-year-old Jordanian according to the identity he provided, “he is unfavorably known to the services”, explains the source familiar with the matter.

He was indicted and placed in pre-trial detention as part of a judicial investigation opened on October 30 for rape committed by a person under the influence of narcotics, theft and fraud, according to a judicial source.

The suspect was under two obligations to leave the territory (OQTF) under two different names, the last dated July, according to information from RMC and Le Parisien confirmed by police sources.

“It’s a double trauma for my client, the rape itself and the circumstances. She wants to go all the way, to understand how these extremely serious facts could have happened like that in a public service, ”commented Me Abecassis.

The AP-HP told AFP “confirm the assault of a patient by a patient on the night of October 27 to 28, 2022 in the premises of the emergency reception service of the Cochin-Port Royal hospital but does not comment on an ongoing investigation.
