France: three people die after being hit by a train

An investigation is underway, led by the Saint-Jean-de-Luz police station and the Bayonne judicial police.

TKings people, “possibly migrants”, died hit by a train Tuesday around 5 am near the station of Saint-Jean-de-Luz (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), the Bayonne prosecutor’s office told AFP. A fourth person, seriously injured and suffering from a broken leg, is hospitalized, according to the prosecution, confirming information from the local press.

According to the prosecution and the SNCF, these four people were on the tracks when the train passed, a TER traveling from Hendaye to the north. The three deceased people are of legal age but their identity has not yet been determined, the prosecution said.

“The traffic was interrupted for a while but the traffic gradually resumed from 8:15 am,” said a spokesperson for the SNCF.
