After the long wait, the Qatar 2022 World Cup finally began with the match between the host and Ecuador, which ended with a 2-0 victory for those led by Gustavo Alfaro.

And within that triumph, Enner Valencia was the great figure of the opening day, in which he gave his team the two goals and three vital points thinking about the great desire Tri: qualifying for the round of 16.

However, the great performance of the Fenerbahçe forward, with which he reached 37 cries in the National Team in 75 official matches, quickly made him a trend in the networks due to a very peculiar episode, in which he pretended to be injured in a match so as not to be arrested by the police.

The episode occurred in an Ecuador-Chile disputed within the framework of the South American Qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup in Russia in 2016, in Quito.

At that time, the tip was dragging an arrest warrant for a delay in the payment of alimony for his daughter.

In this context, members of the local police tried to arrest the then English Everton player when he entered the Atahualpa stadium, something that ultimately did not happen, so he could be part of the starting team.

However, knowing of this situation, Valencia accused a complement injury, which required medical assistance. In this way, the tip left in the classic sanitary cart using an oxygen mask, so he could not be arrested by the police.

However, it was later reported that the forward was accompanied by several agents to a nearby clinic to verify that he was well and then proceed as required.

After a dream premiere, Valencia referred to Ecuador’s great goal in Qatar. “We dream of the best World Cup in the history of Ecuador,” declared the author of the double against the locals. “We can go a long way if we trust each one of us (…) It’s the first match of the World Cup and we have to keep dreaming”, he completed.

Lastly, he referred to his replacement in the match, although he hopes to say that he will be present on Friday against the Netherlands.

“I had a little bump on the knee and ankle. The doctors are going to evaluate me and they are going to see what I have. I hope to be ready and to be able to continue helping my team in this World Cup”, explained the figure of those led by Alfaro.

Valencia seems to be blessed in World Cup events. In his other participation, in Brazil 2014, he was the author of Ecuador’s three goals in the tournament, but he could not avoid the elimination of La Tri after losing against Switzerland (2-1), beating Honduras (2-1) and tie with France (0-0).

In fact, the striker is, together with the substitute goalkeeper Alexander Domínguez and the midfielder Carlos Gruezo, the only survivors of the last presence of the ‘Tri’ in a World Cup.
