During the GeForce Beyond event, Nvidia announced the GeForce RTX 4080 and GeForce RTX 4090 in the evening.
DLSS 3 was also presented. We summarize all the news of the event for you below.
What do the RTX 4080 and RTX 4090 offer?
The RTX 40 series is based on the new NVIDIA Ada Lovelace architecture. Nvidia promises a “huge generational leap” in performance and efficiency, as well as a “new era of real-time ray tracing” and “neural rendering.”
The GeForce RTX 4090 will be released on October 12, 2022 and will cost $1,599 (in Germany from €1,949). The GeForce RTX 4080 will be available from November with 12 GB and 16 GB for $899 (from €1,099) and $1,199 (from €1,469) respectively.
“The GeForce RTX 4090 and 4080 GPUs will be available as standard clock custom boards and factory overclocked models from top add-in partners such as ASUS, Colorful, Gainward, Galaxy, GIGABYTE, Innovision 3D, MSI, Palit, PNY and Zotac will be available,” it said.
Nvidia will also offer limited Founders Editions and you will also find the new graphics cards in gaming systems from Acer, Alienware, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo and MSI.
According to Nvidia, the RTX 40 series will deliver 360 fps on 1440p 360Hz monitors that will launch in the fall. The system latency is 10 ms.
Quadruple performance with DLSS 3
For the also announced DLSS 3, the company promises up to four times the performance through AI-controlled generation of frames.
“Powered by new fourth-gen Tensor cores and a new Optical Flow Accelerator on GeForce RTX 40-series GPUs, DLSS 3 is the latest version of the company’s critically acclaimed DLSS technology and introduces a new feature called Optical multi frame generation,” explains Nvidia.
“It creates entirely new frames, not just pixels, resulting in amazing performance gains. Because DLSS frame generation is post-processed on the GPU, it can boost frame rates even when the game is CPU-limited .”
More than 35 games and applications will soon be using DLSS 3, and Unity and the Unreal Engine are also integrating the technology.
Portal RTX announced
Nvidia Lightspeed Studios has reinterpreted Valve’s Portal as a new ray tracing game.
Portal RTX features full ray tracing and support for DLSS 3, giving the game an “amazing new look and feel.”
Portal RTX will be released as free downloadable content for the original, scheduled for release in November.
RTX Remix as a new platform
According to Nvidia, Portal with RTX is made possible by the new modding platform RTX Remix.
“RTX Remix is an NVIDIA Omniverse-based modding platform that can be used to create stunning RTX remasters of classic games,” they promise.
“With RTX Remix, modders can easily capture game assets, auto-enhance materials with powerful AI tools, and quickly enable RTX with ray tracing and DLSS.”
