Price and release date of the RTX 4090, the most powerful graphics card ever
Even if it will probably not equip your personal PC or even that of your neighbor to overcome, the one that we all expected, the object of all desires and all fantasies, the one that will guide this new generation of cards graphics towards the sun and beyond, the RTX 4090, is finally formalized and promises to be, as expected, a monster of power.
We already knew that, but the 3rd generation of GPUs for RTX cards is named after Ada Lovelacea computer pioneer, known for having created the very first computer program.
This overpowered chip is engraved in 4 nm by TSMC and will offer no less than 76 billion transistors, i.e. practically three times more than the previous Ampere generation (28 billion transistors, 8 nm engraving). On the following graph, we can clearly see the stratospheric leap forward between the Turing, Ampère and Ada Lovelace generations.
With the RTX 4090, we can theoretically expect more than twice the performance of what the already overpowered RTX 3090 Ti offered us and according to the graphics offered by Nvidia during its conference, the card will offer a 450W TDP, much higher than the 350 W of the 3090 Ti. Insane features that pave the way for gaming up to 8K HDR at 60 fpsjust that !
The RTX 4090 in brief :
- 24 GB of GDDR6X
- 16,384 CUDA cores
- 2 to 4 times more powerful than an RTX 3090 Ti
- TDP 450W – Recommended PSU: 850W
- Price: $1599 (€1949)
- Available October 12
Price and release date of the RTX 4080, the graphics card for demanding gamers
If there were indeed 3 graphics cards announced during this Nvidia Keynote, in addition to the RTX 4090, no 4070, but two versions of the RTX 4080, one with 12 GB of GDDR6X and another with 16 GB of GDDR6X. These are on average two to four times more powerful than the current RTX 3080 Ti.
The RTX 4080s in a nutshell :
- 12/16 GB of GDDR6X
- 7680/9728 CUDA cores
- 2 to 4 times more powerful than an RTX 3080 Ti
- TDP 295W/320W – Recommended PSU: 700W/750W
- Price: $899 (€1099)/$1199 (€1469)
- Available in November
The RTX 4000 and RTX 3000 will coexist for a while
With the phenomenal stocks of RTX 3000 cards, we asked ourselves the legitimate question of how Nvidia was going to manage the cohabitation between these two generations. The answer was quickly given by Jensen Huang, the two families will exist in parallel, the offer will therefore start at $329 for the RTX 3060 and up to $1599 (€1949) for the RTX 4090 (price excluding taxes always).
As with the RTX 3000 series, the RTX 4000 will be available in Founders Edition versions or in custom versions from a dozen historical partners including Asus, Colorful, Gainward, Galaxy, Gigabyte, Inno3D, MSI, Palit, PNY or even Zotac.
The first to have communicated are none other than MSI who announce no less than 4 series of cards dedicated to the RTX 4000, including the intriguing SUPRIM LIQUID series which will offer closed-loop liquid cooling. All information is available on the
DLSS 3.0 the secret (and exclusive) weapon of the RTX 4000
Two years after the release of DLSS 2.0 and its revision 2.1, DLSS 3.0 is also making its appearance and will be reserved for 4000 series cards. As a reminder, DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) allows you, thanks to artificial intelligence, to enjoy improving the quality of your games and ray tracing in much higher resolutions than your machine could in theory offer you. .
DLSS 3.0 is much more efficient than the previous generation, it will be able to anticipate the next images and will be 4 times faster to generate them.
To illustrate all this, Nvidia relied on in-game images from Cyberpunk 2077, Microsoft Flight Simulator or even a new mode for Valve’s excellent Portal, soberly titled Portal RTX and which will be free for all owners of the original game. . The latter could be achieved with a new tool called “RTX Remix” and which has the ability to remix an old game to make a clean and modern copy. What give cold sweats to the regulars of the remastered versions.
All of this is obviously just the start of a new adventure and we will be sure to come back to these various announcements in the coming days with details on the dates of the RTX 4080s, prices in euros, availability, performance, etc., etc.
