PSeveral thousand people protested in Germany on Saturday against measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus and compulsory vaccination, while smaller groups staged counter-demonstrations.

In Stuttgart, protesters stopped outside the building of public broadcaster Südwestrundfunk (SWR) to criticize media coverage of the pandemic.

They repeated the calls “Lügenpresse” (false press) and “Wir sind das Volk” (We are the people), a witness said. The police ordered the participants to wear protective masks.

The Offenbach rally, which drew some 1,200 people, passed off peacefully, police said. Some 300 people gathered for a counter-protest.

In the northern town of Schwerin, some 1,100 people attended a rally, police said. Officers intervened when one of the participants insulted the 30 people taking part in a counter-protest. Officers arrested a man who allegedly pushed a bystander as he left the rally.
