Google Wallet: What is it and how will it work?

THE Google Wallet was presented yesterday (11) during the Google I/O 2022 presentation with the proposal to innovate the way you store your personal documents, bank cards and more. In the midst of the digital age, Google’s new system will work as a wallet for you to store everything you need, but in a virtual way. In this article we will explain how it will work and how it can help you.

What is Google Wallet?

As its name suggests, Google Wallet is nothing more than a wallet. You know that wallet you carry in your backpack or in the back pocket of your pants and use to store money, CPF, RG, public transport card, credit cards, driver’s license, vaccination card and so on? Google Wallet does all this and more, but in a virtual way, that is, everything is digitized.

With Google Wallet, you won’t have to worry about checking your wallet to see if you have your credit card before entering a restaurant. The application will gather all your cards and give you the possibility to make the payment by approximation, in the way that already happens with Google Pay.

In this way, Google Wallet will replace Google Pay, aggregating more functions, being able to combine information from the student ID, driver’s license, identity, vaccination, loyalty card and even Disney pass. The app will also be available for Wear OSGoogle’s new operating system for smart watches.

How will Google Wallet work?

First, it is worth noting that Google Wallet is a very useful resource and can help you avoid forgetting. You can, for example, save your boarding pass for a trip in the app, and it will notify you of delays and gate changes. When you go to a show, you may attach your tickets in the application and it will remind you of the day, time and even the route to the place, as it has integration with the Google Maps.

in the case of transport cards, like the Bilhete Único in São Paulo, you can use your own cell phone to unlock the turnstile and even follow the bus route and even your account balance. And when you realize that the balance is insufficient to pay for the ticket, you can easily insert more money. And in times of a pandemic, when you need to inform your vaccination to enter an establishment, just show the digital document by the application itself.

There are infinite possibilities. The company said that it has been committed to partnering with different companies in the market, from transit agencies, retailers, ticket providers, health agencies and airlines so that they can create digital versions of their cards or tickets for Google Wallet. Gradually, Google said it intends to add even more digital IDs and even office and hotel keys. Have you ever thought about not having to carry more wallet or your keys when you’re on the street?

The search giant said companies are free to turn any object into a digital item. Therefore, the trend is for more features to be implemented after Android 13 is made available to users.
