Greens bring follow-up regulation for 9-euro ticket into the conversation

The increased energy prices have not yet fully reached the people – says the Green leader and announces further relief in autumn and winter. The financing could lead to disputes in the coalition.

Green party leader Ricarda Lang has announced another relief package for autumn and winter. This could also include a follow-up offer for the nine-euro ticket in local public transport, Lang told the “Bild am Sonntag”. “We are now investigating whether people are really switching from cars to trains because of the ticket. If that’s the case, we in the coalition absolutely have to talk about how we can build on this success,” said Lang.

However, Lang rejects an extension of the tank discount introduced at the beginning of June in parallel with the nine-euro ticket. “The fuel discount is limited to three months and it should stay that way,” she said. There are “smarter measures” to support commuters.

For the coming months, the Green leader announced further financial support for the citizens. “There will be further relief,” said Lang. The re-compliance with the debt brake enshrined in the Basic Law in 2023 is not “the decisive question”.
