In the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and subsequent sanctions against Russian oligarchs, Chelsea’s future at the end of the season looked more uncertain than ever. Coach Thomas Tuchel is relieved to have followed the club takeover at the end of May by a consortium led by US entrepreneur Todd Boehly. This is the only way that the Champions League winner of 2021 is now liquid again and does not have to sit idly by during the transfer window.
