Here, Jaguar tests the electromagnetism of its cars (why?)

Like many other automakers, Jaguar Land Rover is fully in the race for electromobility, and is investing heavily in the future of electric and connected cars. Today, the group announces that its new Range Rover Sport will be the first vehicle to undergo a bespoke testing program for electromagnetic compatibility.

Electromagnetic compatibility tests?

Electromagnetic compatibility (or EMC for short) is the ability of electrical equipment and systems to operate correctly in their electromagnetic environment. Jaguar Land Rover explains that EMC “works by limiting the unintentional generation, propagation and reception of electromagnetic energy to reduce the risk of adverse effects, including interference“.

Also, Jaguar Land Rover has already developed a new laboratory, in Gaydon in the United Kingdom, which will be responsible for contributing to compliance with current and future legislation and quality standards.

A test center that has two anechoic chambers: an electrically “silent” road allowing engineers to test vehicles at high speed, and equipment for evaluating the performance of individual components, such as batteries or electric motors. The center will be responsible in particular for testing functionalities such as Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS or even 4G and 5G connections, without forgetting wireless charging or even blind spot monitoring.

And so it is the new Range Rover Sport, launched last May, which is the first vehicle to undergo a tailor-made test program in the company’s new premises, which for which we will proceed numerous electrical and radio interference tests. Tests that aim to ensure not only quality and legal compliance, but also customer satisfaction.
