A few steps from the sea, stream and mountains; lake with the bottom of some Andean peak; forests. The context may vary, but the bet is always to wake up in the middle of nature. This alternative is offered by summer vacations in a tent or motorhome, a tourist option among many in the country, with a wide range of budgets and the chance to find a more “gas-fuelled” way to vacation.
There is a whole range of prices in the choice of “camp mode” and as more comfort is sought in the open-air stay, the expenses, of course, are higher.
In some families it is a customary way of doing tourism, the same happens with many groups of young people who choose the backpacking variant to enjoy the free days of the year.
In such cases, given that these experiences have a certain trajectory, perhaps basic equipment is available, and then it is not necessary to purchase tents or sleeping bags (the most expensive elements when camping) and only an accessory is required that facilitate life in the campsite, so you would not have to pay large sums for the vacation project.
On the other hand, if you start from scratch, and therefore you lack the necessary elements for a camp, you have to think about investing a good amount of pesos.
Among the diversity of items intended for life in a tent, a distinction is made between those that can be transported by families who, for example, travel with the advantage of their own vehicle, and people who travel by train or bus and who need to carry their luggage. lowest possible weight and volume. In any case, the trend in this specific market is to present increasingly lightweight and versatile products. It is, in this sense, an offer that does not usually launch new elements, but improvements in terms of materials and functionality.
HIGH SEASON AND PRICES
The peak summer season for most campsites runs roughly between mid-December and the end of February. Thus, in the houses that sell special equipment for this type of tourism, inquiries about items and their prices are given from October until the end of the year holidays: only from then on and with the date of gifts from Santa Claus as the horizon. sales begin to move, according to the businesses in the field consulted by this newspaper.
EL DIA took the examples of a camping site on the Atlantic beaches and another located in Bariloche, (specifically on the coast of Lake Nahuel Huapi) as references of what camping could cost next summer.
The rates for a Santa Teresita campsite are, per plot and including one or two tents plus a vehicle: for two people, 2700 pesos per day; 4 people, 4,500 pesos; mobile home: or trailer, 2 people, 3,100 per day, and 4 people, 4,900.
In the Bariloche option, per day, each older person pays 2,500 pesos; the youngest (from 4 to 10 years old), 1,200 pesos; the car or truck, 800 pesos; if you camp in a trailer, 200 pesos are added; and in motorhome, 1,200 pesos.
These services usually include electric light on the plot, grill or stove, and in some cases tables and chairs in addition to common toilets and changing rooms. Discounts may also be offered with cash payments.
In camping equipment, the values, as said, are very diverse. To begin with, an intermediate quality tent -not the structural ones for 6/8 people-, is available in a range between 35,000 and 40,000 pesos (for 2 people) and between 40,000 and 50,000 pesos (for 4 people); sleeping bags, from 10,000 to 70,000 pesos; food and beverage preservatives, with different capacities in liters, from 8,000 pesos (if they are nationally manufactured) and from 40,000 (if they are imported); night lamp (with disposable carafe), between 15,000 and 20,000 pesos; stove, between 15,000 and 20,000 pesos; inflatable mattress, from 8,000 to 13,000 pesos (two seats); and inflator, from 3,000 to 8,000 pesos.
In shops it is pointed out that people usually decide to buy near the exit
In addition, there are all kinds of accessories, some very necessary for daily activities, such as a small shovel, axe, penknife, a few meters of rope, an insulating mat, a flashlight, utensils, some basic tools, and canteens, among other items.
Pablo D’Agostino is in charge of a house of nautical and camping articles. “For now, what we receive the most are inquiries and 70 percent through the networks or the website. Not many sales have materialized yet because people usually decide to buy closer to the trip and that is from mid-December to the end of February,” said the merchant at the 1 and 64 store.
For his part, Gonzalo Bernal, owner of a shop dedicated to clothing and camping items on Calle 12 between 62 and 63, said that although these days “there is little merchandise”, the big bet is the month of the “season strong” at his premises, “from December 15 to January 15”, he specified.
