House of the Dragon: Starbucks cups were hunted on the film set

So as not to forget Starbucks cups during editing, the co-directors of the House of the Dragon series decided to paint them digitally in order to be able to track them down. The Game of Thrones spin-off series arrives, as a reminder, on August 21 on OCS.

One of the most notorious errors of the series game of thrones goes back to episode 4 of season 8. Remember: during a certain scene, a Starbucks cup had been forgotten during the assembly on a table, in front of Daenerys Targaryen. An oversight that was hugely talked about at the time, leading to a cavalcade of memes and jokes about how the modern drink had made its way into the fantasy realm of Westeros. On that note, a bottle of water was also left at the mount, if you missed it.

Except that the showrunners of the series House of the Dragon did not want to repeat the same mistakes. The Hollywood Reporter had the opportunity to speak with co-showrunners Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik at the series premiere, which took place last week. Condal admitted that they had a number of measures in place to prevent such mistakes from happening again.

The set was very heavily guarded. We’ve always joked about the Starbucks tumbler, so we decided to make the tumblers fit in with the sets this time around. said Condal. Asked at the microphone of our colleagues, Sapochnik, the co-director, admitted that they had even been digitally painted to facilitate their identification during assembly.

If you don’t remember, the Starbucks cup seen in Game Of Thrones actually belonged to Lord Varys actor Conleth Hill. Which will not have prevented the whole world from being persuaded that it belonged to Emilia Clarke, with the actress sitting right in front during the scene. Might as well make sure that no Starbucks cup appears in this new series, so as not to create an avalanche of memes comparing Daenerys to her ancestors.

Also, be aware that if you ever spot a Starbucks cup left behind in the show, the co-director ofHouse of the Dragon indicated thata prize would be up for grabs : a cup of coffee, of course. Based on the book Fire and Blood by George RR Martin, House of the Dragon is expected on August 21, 2022 on OCS, with a season of 10 episodes.
