SEGA and Creative Assembly are unveiling their new game today. It’s a first-person shooter game called Hyena whose art direction might get noticed.
Hyenas, a colorful new multiplayer FPS with zero G
So this is one of the projects that SEGA described as a “super game” a few months ago, namely a large multi-platform production translated into several languages with a simultaneous worldwide release.
Although we don’t know much more at the moment, we learn that Hyenas pits 5 teams of 3 people against each other. The goal of the game is not yet very precise, but it is already a question of fight and escape as well as theft of treasures, all in a universe of science fiction largely tinged with pop culture.
In HYENAS, the world is in pieces… literally. The billionaires ended up settling on Mars, leaving Earth and taxes far behind. The anti-gravity technology that allowed them to take off devastated the planet, leaving us in an unstable slum called the “Pit.” The only thing that interests them are rare products, remnants of pop culture, which they extract from the rubble to pile up in their Martian mansions.
The time has come to take it all back. The huge shopping malls known as freighters are filled to the brim with nostalgic icons stolen from the rubble of the earth, and protected by mercenaries, alarm systems and military drones that only the ultra-rich can afford. Assemble a team of Hyenas by choosing from a motley group of criminals with unique techniques and weapons, to climb aboard, recover the goods, and carapate you as quickly as possible.
The game is being developed by Creative Assembly, the studio behind Alien: Isolation and the Total War series, and will feature zero-gravity areas, as shown in the very colorful and reference-packed trailer below.
- Each freighter is a giant sandbox of intersecting systems creating endless opportunities for the most skilled team to exploit the environment, security systems, mercenaries and opposing teams to Take (the) advantage.
- Combine high mobility and deadly combat with unpredictable, and often actionable, zero-gravity zones, and you get incredible opportunities to exploit your environment to trap and eliminate other teams.
- HYENAS will not have any pay-to-win system. Merchandise will include Panini sticker albums, a SEGA Mega Drive and PEZ dispensers.
The release of Hyenas is scheduled for Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PS4, PS5 and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store) in 2023. It is already possible to register to test the alpha version of the game on the official site.
