He said this at a conference on Tuesday, reports the Wall Street Journal. “Permanent bans should be extremely rare and really only for accounts that are bots or scam or spam accounts… I don’t think banning Donald Trump was right,” Musk said.
Twitter permanently banned Trump from the platform in January 2021 after his supporters stormed the US Capitol. The company said it made this decision “because of the risk of further calls for violence.” Trump had more than 80 million followers at the time.
Trump himself does not want to return to Twitter
However, when Musk announced that he was interested in acquiring the company to make it a free speech platform, questions arose about whether he would invite Trump back. Trump himself said last month he would not return to the platform if given the opportunity.
Instead, he would be active on his own platform, Truth Social. Of Musk, he said: “I like Elon Musk. I like him very much. He’s an excellent person. We did a lot for Twitter when I was in the White House. I was disappointed in the way Twitter treated me. I will not return to Twitter,” he told US broadcaster CNBC.
