"Indiana Jones 5": Harrison Ford will be digitally rejuvenated in the film

The actor, who was 80 years old during filming, will appear younger in the film’s prologue, thanks to the special effects.

In the fifth part of the adventures of Indiana Jones, Harrison Ford will play the famous archaeologist at two periods of his life, thanks to digital special effects, reports this Monday the specialized magazine Empire.

In a prologue whose action takes place in 1944, Harrison Ford will regain the appearance he had in the original trilogy of the 1980s. The sequence, announced “like an adrenaline rush” by director James Mangold, will show a confrontation between Indiana Jones and his lifelong enemies, the Nazis.

“My hope is that we look at the scene and say, ‘oh my god, they found footage shot forty years ago!'” Producer Kathleen Kennedy said. “We immerse the audience in an adventure, Indy is looking for something and immediately you have the impression of being in an Indiana Jones film.”

Harrison Ford is pleased with the result: “It’s the first time I’ve seen [un rajeunissement à l’écran] and that I find it believable. It’s a little scary. I don’t want to know how it works, but it works. But it doesn’t make me want to be young again. I’m happy to be that age.”

“Indiana Jones comes to the end of her journey”

This new film – whose title has not yet been announced – marks Indiana Jones’ great return to cinema after fifteen years of absence and the release ofIndiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skullwhich did not appeal to fans of the saga, in 2008.

Harrison Ford let himself be convinced by this fifth installment quite easily: “I thought it would be good to see a film in which Indiana Jones would arrive at the end of his journey. This scenario gave me the impression of being able to extend the character “, he told Empire.

For the first time in the history of the saga, Indiana Jones 5 will not be made by Steven Spielberg – who nevertheless remains producer of the project – but by James Mangold to whom we owe in particular Logan (2017). Harrison Ford will play opposite Phoebe Waller Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen and Antonio Banderas. Release scheduled for June 28, 2023 in France.
