iWork Apps: Apple brings back form letters in Pages

Apple has updated its iWork apps and added some new features. Above all, the serial letter function in Pages was a long-cherished wish of many users. It was cashed in as part of the cross-platform expansion of the iWork apps nine years ago. Version 12.1 of Keynote, Numbers, and Pages are available to download for free on the App Store for iPhone and iPad, and the Mac App Store.

Word processor Pages introduces mail merge to quickly create personalized letters, cards, and envelopes for multiple recipients. The “Mail Merge” feature was sorely missed by some after being phased out in version 5.0 in 2013. Since then, users have had to use workarounds. The contact details for the serial letters can be obtained from the address book or from a table. For the first time, the function is now also available on iOS and iPadOS.

In addition, the templates have been expanded. In addition to new invitations, references and certificates can now be found here. Pages documents can now also be exported as TXT files.

In Keynote, transitions between slides can be made more lively with dynamic backgrounds. Additionally, new animated themes have been added that make use of this capability. Also added a feature to skip all slides of a hidden group.

In the Numbers spreadsheet, Apple says it has improved the performance of large spreadsheets. This should make it faster to insert lines and columns in such documents.

Apple keeps tinkering with its iWork apps. In April, for example, the ability to use shortcuts was added.
