July begins, the tax-free month in Florida

MIAMI.- Throughout July, Independence Month, Floridians will be able to benefit from the holiday sales tax exemption on a wide range of items and services, including sporting and cultural events, outdoor activities, fishing, excursions, or electric scooters.

Governor Ron DeSantis took to social media to urge Florida residents to take advantage of the tax holiday, approved by the state legislature last March as part of a broad legislative package.

The current sales tax exemption began on Monday, July 1 and ends on Wednesday, July 31.

Sales tax will not be charged on boating, fishing or camping supplies, or on tickets to musical performances, sporting events, fairs, theater performances or movies throughout this month.

Under HB-7073, starting in July, people will be able to purchase tax-free tickets to sporting or cultural events held in Florida on any date, as long as they fall within the year 2024.

In 2021, as part of the celebrations for Freedom Day, the first week-long tax holiday was held in Freedom Month. The following year, the experience was repeated and in 2023 it was extended to 21 days.
