The ejidatarios of Kantunilkin returned to the ‘ring’ against the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) after they approved in assembly the initiation of a lawsuit against the public company before the Unitary Agrarian Court 44 to demand compensation for the use of their lands.
They explained that in previous meetings held by their representatives, the regional superintendent of the CFE He said that an indemnity payment was not appropriate since the Commission has relied on that legal easement of passage (through their lands) for more than 40 years and any demand for payment expired after 10 years, in accordance with the law.
For this reason, the staff of the Agrarian Attorney’s Office offered to advise and accompany the ejidatarios in a legal claim, which was endorsed by the assembly.
Ejidatarios questioned whether or not they could win the lawsuit against CFE
During the meeting, several ejidatarios questioned these officials about the elements and documentation they have to reach a ruling in favor of the ejido.
It is important to remember that the ejidatarios agreed to remove their blockade of the Chiquilá highway 11 days ago, and would only allow the CFE access for maintenance or repair actions, not for public works, a situation that jeopardizes the improvement works to Holbox, which is planned to conclude at the end of the year.
The meeting was attended by 600 of the thousand 116 registered ejidatarios, which were enough to carry out the assembly.
