Tennis was the scene of a new protest demonstration by an activist against global warming, after the semi-final of the last Roland-Garros. This Friday, September 23, a man entered the O2 Arena court during the Laver Cup match between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Diego Schwartzman, before setting his arm on fire. Wearing a t-shirt marked with the phrase ‘End UK private jets’, end private jets in the UK, the activist was later evacuated from the court.
This demonstration was of short duration, at the end of the first set. The London police confirmed in a press release the arrest of the man, as well as his hospitalization. His injuries are not life threatening.
On June 3, an activist chained herself to the net on center court at Roland-Garros during the semi-final between Casper Ruud and Marin Cilic, interrupting the match for several minutes. In recent months, several sporting events have been the subject of demonstrations for the protection of the planet, such as Premier League and NBA matches, or even the last British Formula 1 Grand Prix.
