LG Gram 14: Lightweight notebook gets CPU and display upgrades

LG brings its smallest notebook from the 2022 generation to the German market. Like its big brothers, the Gram 14 uses processors from Intel’s CPU series Alder Lake-P, but weighs just 1 kg. In addition, LG now installs a matte 16:10 display, which should cause fewer problems with reflections, especially on the go.

The first shops are selling two versions of the Gram 14. The more expensive one for 1600 euros has the 12-core processor Core i7-1260P with four performance and eight efficiency cores – a significant upgrade compared to the four-core Tiger Lake CPUs in the predecessor. With the switch from Tiger to Alder Lake, there is also faster LPDDR5-5200 instead of LPDDR4X-4266 memory. Due to the principle, the 16 GB are still soldered, so they cannot be exchanged or expanded. Windows 10 Home is preinstalled on a 1 TB PCI Express SSD.

In the cheaper 1350 euro configuration, the Core i5-1240P sits with 12 CPU cores as well, but lower clock speeds and less cache. The SSD is half the size at 512 GB, the memory remains unchanged at 16 GB LPDDR5-5200.

In both cases, the IPS display shows 1920 × 1200 pixels at 60 Hertz, shines with up to 350 cd/m² and covers the DCI-P3 color space almost completely.

For the connections, LG has opted for two Thunderbolt 4 in the form of Type C ports, two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type A (10 Gbit/s), HDMI and a headset jack. The USB-C power supply charges the notebook via one of the Thunderbolt 4 ports. The Gram 14 transmits wirelessly via Wi-Fi 6E – with compatible routers also in the 6 GHz network. The hardware, including a 72 watt-hour battery, is housed in a magnesium alloy housing.

The Gram 14 with a Core i7-1260P, 16 GB of LPDDR5-5200 RAM and a 1 TB SSD is already widely available (from €1599). The second configuration with a Core i5-1240P, 16 GB of memory and a 512 GB SSD is available from the first shops (from €1349). Alternatively, the Gram notebooks are also available with display sizes of 15.6, 16 and 17 inches.
