A European champion in Lyon. OL announced Thursday August 19 the arrival of Italian left-back Emerson, on loan and from Chelsea. At 27, the recent winner of the Euro and the Champions League will discover a fourth championship, after Brazil, Italy and England. Barred by strong competition in London (Ben Chilwell, Marcos Alonso), Emerson had only played two Premier League games last year.
The left-back position was one of OL’s priorities, at the request of coach Peter Bosz. A need reinforced by the departure to Nice of young Melvin Bard and the loan of Youssouf Koné to Troyes. Maxwel Cornet is also announced to start.
The arrival of Emerson relaunches the transfer window of OL, stopped since June 29 and the arrival of another left side, the Brazilian Henrique. Defender Damien Da Silva was until then the only other summer recruit for Lyonnais, despite several starts (Jean Lucas in Monaco, Joachim Andersen at Crystal Palace). The difficulties in the league, a draw against Brest and a defeat in Angers, put even more pressure on the Lyon leaders to take action.
