This Japanese director is notably at the origin of a cinematographic movement which particularly interests us and which influenced the Ryu ga Gotoku studios. The links between the Like a Dragon saga and the cinema are very close, and have been since the very first episode released in December 2005 (in Japan). Would you be interested in a modern live-action adaptation in the Yakuza universe?

It would be fun to make a movie or an anime or something like that. From Ryu ga Gotoku studios’ point of view, it would make a cool movie and it would be really interesting to see how a creator, who is not us, reclaims our universe. – Masayoshi Yokoyama (Director of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios)

A first adaptation of Ryu ga Gotoku was released in March 2007. Yakuza: The Order of the Dragon (Ryu ga Gotoku: Gekijoban from its original title) directed by Takashi Miike himself takes over the events of the first game. perception do you have in 2022 of this film?

About Takashi Miike’s movie, we made it right after the first Like a Dragon game. This film would be very different if we made it today. At the time, the two projects were produced in parallel. The film was a promotional medium helping to increase the popularity of the Yakuza franchise. – Masayoshi Yokoyama (Director of Ryu ga Gotoku Studios)

Like a Dragon has not withdrawn from dark rooms. Indeed, according to Sega, a new feature film would be in development with 1212 Entertainment and Wild Sheep Content at the helm, but also Erik Barmack, Roberto Grande and Joshua Long as producers.
