Lozoya never said he was under house arrest, says his defense

The former director of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex), Emilio Lozoya, never said he was under domiciliary rooting, for which he did not lie to the Judiciary at any time, as suggested by the photographs released by journalist Lourdes Mendoza last Sunday, said Tuesday the defense of the former federal official.

“This defense states that neither Mr. Lozoya Austin nor his lawyers or attorneys-in-fact have affirmed, at any time, that Mr. Lozoya Austin is subject to the precautionary measure of domiciliary rooting. On the contrary, it was the distinguished journalist mentioned above who, through her representative, by means of briefs dated October 14 and 30, 2020, affirmed before the Court that Mr. Lozoya Austin was under domiciliary rooting, ”it reads in the statement released by the three defense attorneys.

Last Sunday, a series of images were circulated in the media that show the former director of Pemex eating at the Hunan restaurant, in the exclusive area of Lomas de Chapultepec, in Mexico City, despite the fact that Lozoya currently collaborates with the FGR as protected witness for the investigations of the Odebrecht case.

After the distribution of the photographs, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador assured that Lozoya’s visit to a luxury restaurant was “an act of provocation.”

“I think it is legal, but it is immoral for these things to happen, it is reckless, to say the least, an act of provocation, because this man was a director of Pemex and is a protected witness, they call him differently, but that’s it, ”said the president during his morning conference on Monday.

Emilio Lozoya is accused of the crimes of organized crime, bribery and operations with resources of illicit origin.

The investigations into Lozoya stem from the sale of the Agronitrogenados plant and the alleged bribes for 10 million dollars by the Odebrecht company to grant them contracts from Pemex. (With information from Latinus)
