LThe jury has found the perpetrator of the 2017 attack in Manhattan guilty, US media report. Sayfullo Saipov is accused of having killed eight people, including a Belgian. He faces the death penalty.


The man ran into pedestrians and cyclists driving a rental van on October 31, 2017. In addition to the eight dead, the incident left a dozen seriously injured. It was the deadliest attack in New York since September 11, 2001.

Among the victims was a 31-year-old Belgian. She lived in Staden, West Flanders, and had two young children. At the time, she was traveling with her mother and two sisters. In addition, three other Belgians – a man, a woman and their son – were injured in the attack.
